Clothes can be something you don’t think twice about—or they can be an extension of your personality! So, what should you wear for your photo session? Here’s a rundown to help you look and feel prepared. Your attire, along with any props, can add a personal touch and help you feel camera-ready and comfortable.

Comfortability and Authentic Style

Choose clothes that feel like “you” and allow easy movement. I won’t ask you to do gymnastics (unless you want to!), but you’ll need enough mobility to walk, skip, or even jump. And if a prompt feels uncomfortable or doesn’t suit you, let me know! My goal is for you to feel at ease and safe during your session.

Undergarments can also make a difference. Do a quick check in the mirror to make sure they’re fully covered from every angle. The less you need to think about your outfit, the more relaxed you’ll feel—and that shows in photos!

 Keep It Timeless

If you want your photos to feel timeless, consider avoiding fluorescent colors, logos, and bright whites. Bold patterns tend to distract from your face, especially if multiple people are in the session. We want to keep the focus on you, not on busy designs.

Dress for the Weather

Staying comfortable in any weather helps you look natural in your photos, especially if your session is partly or fully outdoors. If you’re dressed too warmly, you might get sweat spots on your outfit, and if you’re too cold, goosebumps may make a surprise appearance! You know your Goldilocks temperature, so dress for that “just right” feeling.

Polished & Seamless

A polished look shines in photos! Steam out any pesky wrinkles, and trim any loose threads to make sure your outfit looks picture-perfect.

Footwear That Fits

Wear shoes that match the terrain to keep you grounded. If you want to wear heels, pack an extra pair of flats to swap in as needed. Or, if you’re up for a cozy, barefoot look, skip the shoes entirely! This can work beautifully for at-home lifestyle sessions, summer picnics, or a beach setting.

 Nail the Look

Fresh manicures add a lovely touch! There’s no better time to treat yourself to some pampering. Your hands will feel photogenic long after your session! Guys may want to trim their nails, shape up their hair, and trim beards to add a polished finish.
